Qi Nian closed her eyes in despair. She hadn’t originally intended to say that.

It was painfully silent.

Even the store clerks were quiet.

Qi Nian raised her head.

There was no expression on Ji Yanxin’s face. However, his eyes were cold and daunting, and his gaze was on Qi Nian, lingering for a few seconds.

Qi Nian felt like her scalp was going numb from his gaze.  She slowly started to regret asking and felt as if boulders were stacked upon her chest.

‘Should I do some damage control? Should I say I was joking? Would that get me kicked out of class...

Just two days ago, he stated that if she had any other feelings for him, he would be very conflicted about what to do with her participation in his class.

It hadn’t been long, and she was showing her “prodigal son” nature again.

While Qi Nian was overthinking, Ji Yanxin was slowly losing his patience.

Looking down at his watch and then at the girl in front of him, he felt a little helpless.

“Let’s go.” He turned and started to walk away.

Qi Nian was frozen in place.

‘That’s it? Aren’t you going to agree or disagree with my request?’

Ji Yanxin turned to look at Qi Nian when he noticed that Qi Nian wasn’t following him.

Qi Nian was still standing at the same place. When his eyes looked at her, she felt as if a chilly wind blew on her neck. Lowering her head, she ran after him hurriedly.

Ji Yanxin expressed his disappointment very directly. From the store to the underground parking lot, he walked quickly and with a steady pace. If Qi Nian didn’t run after him, she would have lost him by then.

When they reached the parking lot, she was panting, completely out of breath.

The mall wasn’t far away from Qi Nian’s home. You would just need to take two lefts and you’d arrive.

Seeing that she was almost home, Qi Nian rubbed her wrists before apologizing, “I’m sorry.”

Ji Yanxin raised his eyebrows without making a sound.

Qi Nian’s confidence plummeted, and she kept apologizing, “I’m sorry.”

At the red light, he turned to look at her, swallowed, and responded, “Forget it.”

Qi Nian blinked; her eyes were sore after she rubbed them too intensely.

Hearing him dismiss the issue, it seemed to her like Ji Yanxin came to a compromise. Hesitating for a moment, she decided to ignore her dignity and questioned, “So, you agree?”

When Ji Yanxin heard those words, he was about to release the brakes, but instead, he pressed down on them. He glanced at Qi Nian with an ugly look and said, “Don’t push your luck.”

“Oh.”

Despite her simple reply, her heart was filled with fireworks.

She rubbed her face and laughed silently.

Liu Xia had just squeezed herself into a crowded bus the moment she received a call from Qi Nian.

More people started to crowd into the bus. [t/n: Imagine Japanese subways. The regulations of how many people are in a cart/bus are very loose.]

Liu Xia, who was being tossed around, asked, “You, you...go to Ji-...ah, are you at his house?..I didn’t know you were that kind of person, Qi Nian.”

‘It’s only been one night but they’ve progressed that fast?’

Before Liu Xia could express her joy, Qi Nian replied, “We don’t have to go to the art museum this afternoon. Professor Ji has a flight at that time.”

Liu Xia was on the verge of puking blood*. She felt weak and couldn’t find strength inside herself, weakly replying, “So you’re going to bail on me?” [t/n: Hyperbole - in this context, it means her feelings are hurt (jokingly of course).]

“No, just a change in schedule.”

Liu Xia felt a bit more comforted. If Qi Nian didn’t assure her with this, she was about to strangle her friend when she saw her again.

Ji Yanxin was going on a business trip.

Liu Xia recalled that someone told her about this topic, “Mr. Ji is going to participate in an exchange meeting. Tsk tsk, the gathering of the elites really makes us, the rest of the biochemical department, jealous.”

Qi Nian didn’t understand this, so she wasn’t very interested.

The only thing she cared about would be how long he was going to be gone, and when she could see him again.

All courses for the next half of the month were replaced by Professor Shen.

As a liberal arts student, Qi Nian sitting in the midst of the top students of the biochemical department caught the attention of Professor Shen.

His interest was further peaked when he asked her questions from time to time.

It gave him great joy every time he saw her biting her pen with an expression saying “you might as well kill me.”

Liu Xia wasn’t spared either. Let’s just say that Professor Ji was much easier to understand.
